Great insight about the similar cash from operations but heavier CapEx at EOG.

CNQ also benefits from the narrower WCS discount after TMX startup and the suspension of imports from Venezuela.

Yes for their heavy oil.

Thank you very much for this.. For a long time I have felt I have missed out on EOG with seemingly everyone recommending it.. Now my conscience is cleared... I currently own to many E&P's anyway...

I bought heavily into CNQ while they were still making those investments in upgrading but not yet in full production. I picked off dips as low as $18 CAD and just kept waiting for production to get going. Then boom, production ramps up, div ramps up, stock ramps up, I'm close to 3X on stock price alone ($42.51) as I write). It was obvious those investments would pay off and they did.

So, this analysis was very interesting to me, but CNQ is just a long term hold for me now.

What I really want is another CNQ circa 2018.... :-)

Congratulations on your foresight on CNQ! The market is so focused on immediate shareholder returns these days that it would be tough for another CNQ to get any interest. But I will keep digging in the weeds, at least a bit. Convinced myself this morning that CIVI -- Civitas -- is not it.

uh oh. Trouble coming?

I have a small position just recently opened and am up 15%. I did not buy it expecting huge gains like CNQ. I bought it because it had a good dividend and the small position keeps it on my radar to either dump or increase as new info comes in.

I bought into K92 about the same time frame. Gold miner on the edge of production. Mine was built, processing plant was built, debt paid off just running tailings through the processing plant. First full quarter of production they popped. I can't remember how much longer I held but that one was 8X. Should have held they've been 2X from there.

Need more gems like that but they are truly hard to find.
